Appetizers Recipes: Prosciutto Ham and Basil Wraps
This is one of my favorite appetizers recipes because it’s just so darn easy. There’s no cooking involved what so ever (yeah!) and these can be made in a matter of minutes. The best part is, though they’re super easy to create, the flavors are complex enough to make it worthy of even your most elegant dinner parties.
What You Will Need:
2 packages of Prosciutto Ham (or approximately 10 to 12 thin slices)
1 container of Mascarpone (I use the Trestelle brand)
1 package pitted dates
10 to 12 fresh basil leaves
Remove 1 slice of prosciutto ham and lie flat on a cutting board. Gently spread a thin even layer of Mascarpone onto the top of the prosciutto. Place a single basil leaf length ways across the top of the prosciutto slice. Cut off a small piece (or two) of the pitted date—just enough to cover the basil leaf and stretch across the entire prosciutto slice. Beginning at the top where the basil and date sits roll the prosciutto slice down and into a small, tight roll. With a sharp knife cut the roll in half and set on a serving dish. Repeat this process until you’ve used up all your prosciutto slices.
Serves 6
These are best made shortly before you plan on serving them but if you must make them ahead of time cover them with plastic food wrap tightly and refrigerate. Remove from the fridge a half hour before serving to bring the appetizers up to room temperature for the best flavor.
