Easy Recipe for Cooking Tin Foil Ham
I was first introduced to this method of cooking ham by my aunt two years ago when she served it for Easter dinner. The ham was so tender and moist that we’ve been using this easy recipe for cooking ham ever since—and even the kids love it! This recipe will seem so simple that you’ll be tempted to think “there must be more to it” but I promise you that once you try this method you’ll never cook ham another way again.
What You’ll Need:
1 slow cooker or crock pot
1 picnic shoulder ham with the bone in (not those preformed boneless types—I’m talking a real ham here)
Tin foil
1 cup of water.
Keep the ham in its netting and wrap the ham entirely with heavy duty tin foil. Use a couple of layers to make sure the ham is completely covered and sealed. Since this ham is meant to slow roast all day. The easiest way to cook a ham with this method is to wrap it the night before, place the ham into the slow cooker’s inner pot and store the ham in the refrigerator overnight.
In the morning (before you go to work or take the kids to school) place the inner slow cooker dish back into the slow cooker’s bottom unit. Open the lid and pour in the 1 cup of water. Replace the slow cooker lid, set the slow cooker onto low heat and let that baby slow roast all day. When it’s dinner time simple take the ham out of the slow cooker and let it sit, still in the tinfoil, for 5 to 10 minutes. This will ensure the ham “rests” and pulls back in any juices that rose to the surface during cooking and makes for a super juicy ham.
When the resting period is finished unwrap the tinfoil, remove the netting and carve the ham into slices. Yes, this easy recipe for cooking ham is really that simple. No added spices, no turning on the oven, just place that baby into a water bath and let it roast to perfection while you go about your daily business.
Serve with some mashed potatoes and veggies for a super simple supper in no time flat. Now that’s one easy recipe for cooking ham if you ever saw one!
